NUR 679 Primary Care Immersion IV is the last and largest Bradley University FNP practicum: 6 credits and 300 clinical hours of acute and chronic care across the lifespan. You enter it only after NUR 678 and the on-site FNP Bootcamp, and for MSN and certificate students it closes the clinical sequence, so a late packet or a lost preceptor here runs straight into your graduation date.

The bootcamp is a hard prerequisite

Two Bradley sources tie this course to campus. The 2026-27 catalog lists one on-site bootcamp as a prerequisite for NUR 679 alongside NUR 678, and the FNP welcome site requires the Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop before you enroll. The workshop runs for two days each October in Peoria, and you attend it during one of the three earlier FNP practicums.

Some Bradley pages read differently. The online DNP-FNP page calls the program 100 percent online without mentioning the bootcamp, and the 2026-27 FNP program titles lost the on-site bootcamp wording printed in the 2025-26 titles. What 300 hours looks like week to week

Here the arithmetic changes your schedule. At eight-hour days, 300 hours is roughly 38 clinic days. Spread across a full 15-week semester, that is 20 hours a week. The one-or-two-days pattern Bradley's 2017 webinar described for most students tops out at 240 hours over 15 weeks, which falls short, so plan on two to three days most weeks.

Your actual term length is in the academic calendar in MyOnline, and a shorter term pushes the weekly load higher. Before a preceptor signs, ask plainly whether they can host you that many days, and whether vacations or clinic closures fall inside your term. A preceptor who is ideal in every other way can still leave you 60 hours short if their calendar is thin.

Choosing the immersion site

Because the course spans acute and chronic care at every age, a full-scope family practice is the natural fit: same-day sick visits, chronic disease follow-up, well-child care and women's health in one place. The immersion is where you practice running a whole day's schedule, so breadth matters more here than in any earlier course.

Bradley's 2017 FNP competency guide encouraged, without requiring, procedures such as incision and drainage and suturing, so a practice that handles minor procedures adds useful experience. The same 2017 webinar asked that most FNP hours be spent with NPs; with 300 hours in one course, an NP preceptor here does a lot for that balance. Packet timing and your graduation date

The NUR 679 packet goes through DocuSign at the midpoint of the semester before the course, which lands in the middle of NUR 678 when the two run back to back. Search for the immersion preceptor while you are still settling your women's health and pediatric sites.

The stakes are higher at the end of the sequence. Bradley's Graduate Clinical Requirements Policy notes that a clinical agency may refuse a student and that this can delay graduation. If hours run short, an Incomplete is possible only when four-fifths of the coursework is behind you with a course grade of B or better, and the rest must be done by the contract date, or at the latest week 11 of the next semester. Closing out the FNP sequence

A few tasks travel with the final practicum. Handle them as you go rather than in the last week.

Log every day in Typhon within 7 days so your four courses reconcile to the full FNP total.
Expect a preceptor evaluation; in 2017 the packet included a form the preceptor completed on the student, and current forms are in the NUR 679 packet.
Use the Fitzgerald Review materials tied to this course for board preparation; Bradley graduates may sit the AANP or ANCC FNP exam.
MSN students meet the comprehensive assessment by passing the exit exam in NUR 690; certificate students have none, and DNP students complete the final DNP project proposal.

Can I take NUR 679 without attending the FNP Bootcamp?

No. The 2026-27 catalog makes the on-site bootcamp a prerequisite, and the FNP welcome site requires the workshop before NUR 679 enrollment. Some online pages describe the FNP programs as fully online, but the catalog prerequisite still stands. Confirm your October date with your academic advisor.

Can I split NUR 679 hours between two preceptors?

Bradley's public documents do not say. If course faculty allow it, each preceptor needs an approved DocuSign packet before hours count, and Bradley's 2017 two-use ceiling may matter if either precepted you before. Ask faculty or check the NUR 679 clinical packet before arranging a split.

Does NUR 679 prepare me for the FNP certification exam?

Bradley's FNP welcome site lists Fitzgerald Review among the tools used in NUR 679, and graduates of each FNP route may sit the AANP or ANCC exam. Bradley's handbook is clear that completing the degree does not by itself confer a state license or national certification, so plan your own review time too.

What if I cannot finish 300 hours before the NUR 679 term ends?
