Finding NP preceptors in Peoria and central Illinois
Two hospital systems anchor Peoria's clinical market, OSF HealthCare and Carle Health, and each has its own front door for nurse practitioner students: OSF lists a contact mailbox, while Carle runs an online rotation application. Neither publishes a lead time. A Bradley student near Peoria does best by starting early, searching independent and community practices alongside the hospitals, and leaving room for Bradley's agency agreement to finish.

Two systems, two different front doors
Bradley's nursing department describes Peoria as a strong medical community with two major hospital systems, public health facilities and nursing homes. For an NP student, those two systems are OSF HealthCare and Carle Health, and they handle student requests in quite different ways.
One point often causes confusion. Bradley's campus BSN and accelerated BSN students have their Peoria clinicals arranged by faculty, and that arrangement belongs to the campus program alone. It tells an online NP student nothing about whether a particular hospital unit or clinic will host them. Online graduate students find their preceptors personally, as Bradley's model expects, and Bradley approves the result. For them, what counts is each system's own published student route, described below.
OSF HealthCare: a contact, not a portal
OSF's education page gives advanced practice provider students (APRN, PA and DNP clinical track) a dedicated mailbox to write to, with no form, calendar or deadline published. A second mailbox, run by OSF Medical Group's student experience team, covers office and home-care placements for MSN and DNP students on leadership or education tracks.
Because the first message is all OSF asks for, make it count. Put the essentials in a few lines: your Bradley track, the NUR course number, the hours the course carries, the semester, the setting you need, and the name of any OSF provider who has already agreed in principle. A request that names a willing preceptor gives the reader something concrete to route, where a general request for any available NP is much harder to act on.
Carle Health: the former UnityPoint hospitals
On April 1, 2023, Methodist Hospital, Proctor Hospital, Pekin Hospital and their area clinics joined Carle Health, replacing UnityPoint Health as the parent organization in central Illinois. UnityPoint's Peoria pages no longer load, so any older advice about a UnityPoint student process is out of date.
Carle asks NP students to complete its online Clinical Rotation Application. Carle's own page makes clear that sending the application is no promise of a spot, and it names no deadline or turnaround. Treat the application as one track of your search rather than the whole plan, and keep speaking with independent practices while you wait for Carle's answer. The area clinics that joined Carle alongside those hospitals now sit under the same parent, so check Carle's student page first even when your target is a clinic rather than a hospital.
Beyond the hospitals: settings worth calling
Most Bradley practicum courses name a setting, and several point away from the hospital floor. FNP courses and the AGPCNP courses call for primary care or outpatient practice, so physician offices, NP-led practices and community clinics are natural targets. PMHNP practicums need mental health settings, and NUR 687 asks for a sub-specialty such as child and adolescent, geriatric, forensic or consult-liaison psychiatry.
AGACNP students are the ones who most need a hospital, since NUR 656 through NUR 658 require acute care supervision, so the OSF and Carle routes matter most for them. RN-entry students completing NUR 407 need a community setting; Bradley's 2017 webinar listed school nursing, health departments, occupational health, long-term care, assisted living and hospital wellness programs. Planning lead time when none is published

Bradley does not publish which health systems currently hold agreements with it, so ask the Office of Online and Distance Education early; some facilities use their own agreement, which adds time.

Questions Bradley students ask
Do OSF HealthCare or Carle Health take Bradley online NP students?
Neither system lists its partner schools publicly, and Bradley does not publish which systems hold agreements with it. What each system does publish is its own student route: a contact mailbox at OSF and an online Clinical Rotation Application at Carle. Before you count on either, ask Bradley's Office of Online and Distance Education whether an agreement with that site is in place or can be arranged.
Where did UnityPoint Health's Peoria hospitals go?
Methodist, Proctor and Pekin hospitals, along with their area clinics, joined Carle Health on April 1, 2023, according to Carle's Greater Peoria FAQ. UnityPoint's Peoria web pages no longer load. Student requests for those hospitals now go through Carle's online Clinical Rotation Application, which Carle describes as a request rather than a promise of placement.
How early should a Peoria-area student start looking for a preceptor?
Bradley's current rule puts the DocuSign packet at midterm of the semester before the course, and its 2017 preceptor webinar suggested FNP students begin about a year ahead. With neither OSF nor Carle stating a turnaround, working to that one-year horizon leaves room for a slow reply, a declined application and the agency agreement.
Do I need an Illinois RN license for clinicals in Peoria?
Yes. Bradley asks for an active, unencumbered nursing license in the state where your clinicals take place. Illinois is not a compact state, so a multistate license from Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky or Indiana does not reach a Peoria site. Illinois law has a narrow exemption for graduate students licensed elsewhere, but Bradley's stricter rule is the one you follow.
Can my Peoria preceptor be someone I already work with?
Possibly, if they hold a role Bradley accepts and practice in the setting your course names. Bradley publishes no rule on precepting at your own employer or unit, so check your track's clinical packet in MyOnline or ask your academic advisor, and see clinicals where you work before you ask a colleague.
