Bradley's older FNP plan split these patients into separate practicums, including NUR 645 for women's health and NUR 647 for children. Those descriptions are still printed in the 2026-27 catalog, but they belong to the retired five-practicum design and appear in no current program. Today both populations share one 200-hour course, so its hours now cover ground that once took two separate practicums.

Two patient groups, one course

Bradley has not published how the 200 hours should divide between women's health and pediatrics, or whether a minimum applies to either. That answer sits in the NUR 678 clinical packet and with course faculty, and it shapes everything else, so get it before you approach anyone.

From there, the choice is one site or two. A busy family practice with steady pediatric and gynecologic visits may cover both groups under one preceptor. The other route pairs a pediatric practice with a women's health or OB-GYN practice. Each extra preceptor needs a complete packet of their own, and each extra site may need its own agency agreement, which Bradley's Office of Online and Distance Education arranges; see the agency agreement page.

Planning two preceptors without a collision

Two preceptors double the moving parts, so sequence the work.

Get the hour split in writing. Check the NUR 678 packet or ask course faculty how the hours must divide.
Start with the harder slot. Secure whichever population is scarcer near you before locking in the other.
Send two DocuSign packets on time. Both are due by midterm of the semester before NUR 678; the details are on the preceptor packet page.
Map the weeks. Run the sites back to back or on alternating days, and keep the October bootcamp days clear if this is a fall course.
Log each day under the right preceptor. Typhon entries go in within 7 days, attached to the preceptor and site you actually worked with.

Who can supervise women's health and pediatric hours

The most detailed public statement is still Bradley's 2017 FNP preceptor webinar: nurse practitioners, MDs and DOs may precept, most FNP hours should be under NPs, and physician assistants, CNSs and CNLs are excluded. Under that rule a pediatric NP, a family NP with a large pediatric panel, a women's health NP, a pediatrician or an OB-GYN physician would all be candidates, provided the license is active and unencumbered as Bradley's welcome site requires.

Two questions have no public answer. Bradley's material does not mention certified nurse-midwives, so ask course faculty before approaching one for the women's health hours. It also does not say whether pediatric or gynecologic time counts toward the specialty allowance the 2017 webinar described, which let up to 100 of 750 FNP hours fall in specialty care. The bootcamp cutoff falls here

Bradley's FNP welcome site makes the Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop a one-time requirement to finish before NUR 679, and you must be enrolled in NUR 676, NUR 677 or NUR 678 when you attend. That makes NUR 678 the last course in which you can go. The event runs two days each October on the Peoria campus.

If NUR 678 is a fall course and you have not attended yet, that October is your last opening. If it runs in spring or summer, your last opening was the October before, during NUR 677 or NUR 676. Line up NUR 679 while NUR 678 runs

The immersion course carries 300 hours, the largest block in the FNP sequence, and its packet is due by midterm of the semester before it begins. When NUR 679 follows directly, that deadline falls mid-way through NUR 678, while you are juggling two sites.

One of your NUR 678 preceptors may be the right immersion preceptor if they see the full lifespan and have room for 300 hours. Under Bradley's 2017 limit of two reuses per preceptor, check how many times they have already precepted you. If neither fits, begin the immersion search as soon as your NUR 678 packets are submitted rather than after the course ends. The NUR 679 page explains what the immersion needs.

Do I need two preceptors for NUR 678?

Not always. The course covers women from adolescence on plus infants, children and adolescents, and a family practice with enough of both kinds of visits may cover it under one preceptor. The alternative is two, one for pediatrics and one for women's health. Each preceptor needs a complete DocuSign packet and Bradley's approval before any hours count.

Can a certified nurse-midwife precept women's health hours in NUR 678?

Bradley's public documents do not address it. The 2017 FNP webinar allowed NPs, MDs and DOs and excluded physician assistants, CNSs and CNLs, without mentioning nurse-midwives. Ask course faculty, or check the NUR 678 clinical packet in MyOnline, before you ask a midwife to sign anything.
