Viewpoint Screening for Bradley graduate nursing students

Viewpoint Screening is the clearance platform Bradley University names for its online graduate nursing students. You order the "Nursing - Graduate" package from Bradley's own Viewpoint page, finish the background check, drug screen, immunizations, physical and insurance proof by midterm of your first semester, and bring the insurance record up to date every February 1.

What Viewpoint does for a Bradley graduate student

Bradley's welcome sites for newly admitted online students point you to Viewpoint Screening for clinical clearance, under a package called "Nursing - Graduate". The Graduate Clinical Requirements Policy never uses the brand name; it describes the same service as the background requirements platform. Both phrases lead to the account you set up once and keep current for the rest of the program.

Viewpoint is where Bradley sees whether you are cleared. The Department of Nursing reviews results with the clinical coordinator, and health requirements and ViewPoint Screening also appear on the Office of Online and Distance Education's list of duties. MyOnline also carries a Health Requirements tab.

Campus BSN students use Viewpoint too, but under a separate undergraduate policy with a longer, itemized list. When you read about "Bradley's Viewpoint requirements" anywhere, check which policy the list came from before acting on it.

Setting up your account, step by step

The order below follows what the welcome sites and the policy require. The package itself shows the exact screens and any site for the drug screen.

  1. Open Bradley's Viewpoint linkUse the link on your track's welcome site rather than a search result, so the order sits under Bradley's account.
  2. Choose Nursing - GraduateThis is the graduate package. The undergraduate package tracks a different list and will not satisfy the graduate policy.
  3. Order the background check and drug screenThe welcome sites describe a background check and a 12-panel drug screen. Follow the package's instructions for the collection.
  4. Upload immunizations and your physicalAdd your vaccination record and a physical exam dated within the last 12 months.
  5. Add your health insuranceUpload proof of active health and hospitalization coverage.
  6. Watch for noticesA flag on a missing or unsatisfactory item starts a 24-hour response window under Bradley's policy.

The whole file has one deadline: halfway through your first semester of classes. According to the welcome sites, a file left unfinished by then brings a registration hold.

The background check and drug screen

The policy's background check is broad: criminal history at both misdemeanor and felony level, a national sex-offender registry search, a pass through federal exclusion lists, and a scan for health care fraud and abuse. It has to be ordered through Bradley's platform; a check you ran for an employer or another program does not carry over.

The drug screen is a urine test that the policy calls multi-panel and the welcome sites call 12-panel, with a medical review officer reading the result. A dilute or tampered sample is treated as a violation, so follow the collection instructions to the letter.

The results reach beyond Bradley. A clinical site may turn a student away for a conviction or a positive screen, and that can delay graduation. The Clinical Requirements Policy page walks through what a refusal means and how to raise questions early.

Immunizations and the physical

The graduate policy asks for an immunization record and a physical exam from within the last 12 months, and it allows a declination form in some cases. It does not print a vaccine-by-vaccine list for graduate students, so the Nursing - Graduate checklist inside Viewpoint is where you see exactly what to upload.

The campus program does publish a detailed list (MMR, hepatitis B, Tdap, varicella, a yearly flu shot and a two-step TB test or QuantiFERON), but it belongs to the Undergraduate Nursing Practicum Requirements Policy. Graduate students should not assume it applies to them item for item.

Clinical sites can add their own requirements on top of Bradley's. Keep clean scans of every record, dated and labeled, so you can answer a site's onboarding request in minutes instead of digging through old files.

Health insurance: the upload that comes back

Insurance is the one clearance item with a repeating deadline. Under a separate insurance policy that reached graduate students in Summer 2023, you show coverage in your first semester, show it again in the term before clinicals begin, and refresh it each February 1 from then on. The welcome sites say the same February date for the Viewpoint record.

If your coverage changes, report it within two weeks. Changing jobs usually means a new plan, so upload the new card as soon as you have it rather than waiting for February.

Health insurance is separate from the malpractice coverage Bradley provides through practicum course fees. The insurance, badge and dress page explains how the two differ.

Timing Viewpoint around your first practicum

Viewpoint is due in your first semester, which for many tracks is well before your first clinical course. That gap works in your favor: a finished file lets you answer a site's question about clearance on the spot when a preceptor says yes.

Keep an eye on how old your results are. Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar mentioned sites that order a new background check once Bradley's result is over twelve months old, and a physical only counts inside its 12-month window. Ask each site what it accepts once your preceptor agrees.

Certificate students feel this most. Bradley's 2017 webinar placed FNP certificate clinicals in the second semester, so for them the first-semester clearance deadline and the first packet deadline arrive almost together.

The complete sequence, from clearance to the packet and your first Typhon log, is on the clinical deadlines page.

Why Bradley students choose us while clearance is in progress

Your clearance and your preceptor search can move at the same time. The placement desk starts matching you with preceptors while your Viewpoint file is still filling in, so the DocuSign packet is ready the moment you are cleared. Your preceptor's license, CV and malpractice certificate are kept on file for later courses too, so a second practicum is not held up by paperwork from the first.

We note each site's onboarding extras, from a repeat background check to a hospital's own application, and plan them before the packet deadline. If your first semester is underway and no preceptor is lined up yet, tell us your course and home city through the form here, or see how it works.

Questions Bradley students ask

Which Viewpoint package do Bradley graduate students order?

Bradley's welcome sites name the "Nursing - Graduate" package on Bradley's own Viewpoint Screening page. It covers the background check, a 12-panel drug screen and immunizations, and the policy's other items, the physical and health insurance, go through the same platform. Use the link from your welcome site so the order is tied to Bradley.

How long do I have to finish Viewpoint?

Until midterm of your first semester of classes. Past that point, the welcome sites warn, registration is put on hold. Separately, any notice about a missing or unsatisfactory item needs a response within 24 hours under the Graduate Clinical Requirements Policy, even if your overall deadline is weeks away.

Who pays for the Viewpoint items?

You do. Clearance costs sit with the student under the Graduate Clinical Requirements Policy, and the online tuition page names a background check charge among its nursing fees. Check that page for the current amounts, which can change each academic year.

Does Viewpoint track my clinical hours too?

No. Viewpoint handles clearance only. Clinical hours and patient data go into Typhon, and preceptor packets reach Bradley through DocuSign. Each system opens at a different point in the program, with Typhon arriving last, shortly before your first clinical course.

Do I need CPR certification in Viewpoint?

Bradley's current graduate policy and handbook do not list CPR or BLS. The 2017 preceptor webinars did, and the campus Viewpoint list includes CPR. Check your Nursing - Graduate checklist and your track's clinical packet in MyOnline, or ask your academic advisor before you book a class.
