Bradley University leaves the preceptor search to the student and approves whoever the student brings, so the real decision is how the searching gets done. You can run it yourself, lean on people who already know your work, or hand the legwork to a placement desk like ours. All three routes finish at the same Bradley approval; the right one depends on your lead time, your location and how many practicums you still have ahead.

The part that stays fixed on every route
Start with what no search method changes. Bradley approves both the facility and the preceptor, no matter who made the introduction. The DocuSign packet keeps its midterm due date in the term ahead of the course, and the site's agency agreement with Bradley still has to be signed before your first logged hour.
Your personal requirements travel with you too: clearance through Viewpoint Screening, an active and unencumbered RN license in the state where the clinical happens, and clinical work inside your Bradley-approved home or admission state. Running your own search: when it works
Bradley's online pages present the student-led search as a benefit, and for plenty of students it is one. If you live near several primary care or mental health practices, keep a flexible schedule and begin a year out, a self-run search can go smoothly. Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar advised FNP students to start about a year ahead and named Sigma Theta Tau, the ANCC and the AANP as places to hunt for names.
The strain shows up in volume. Take a BSN-entry FNP student: four practicum courses from NUR 676 to NUR 679, and Bradley's own hub copy recommends varying the preceptor as the clinical focus changes. A PMHNP student needs mental health settings for three preceptored practicums, the last of them a sub-specialty placement in NUR 687. Every one is a fresh ask with its own paperwork. Leaning on your network: quick when it lands
Most Bradley graduate students are working RNs, which means colleagues, former managers and the providers you already hand patients to. Those were the first people the 2017 webinar told students to approach. A yes from someone who has watched you work tends to arrive quickly, and NP and DNP applicants have already named potential preceptors or practice mentors on the application.
The limits are fit and rules. The colleague who agrees may practice in a setting the course does not call for: a hospitalist NP suits an AGACNP rotation far better than an FNP primary care one. The Graduate Professional Behaviors Policy bars relatives as preceptors and treats payment for your clinical time as a conflict too. If your contacts sit at your own employer, read clinicals where you work first, because Bradley's public material is silent on precepting inside your own unit and the answer lives in your clinical packet or with your advisor.
A placement desk: what changes when we take the search
With our placement desk, the search runs beside your coursework instead of on top of it. You give us your Bradley track, your city and your next practicum course. Your placement advisor then approaches preceptors whose settings match that course: adult and family primary care for the FNP and AGPCNP tracks, hospital-based acute care for AGACNP, psychiatric practice for PMHNP, and seasoned nurse managers or executives for leadership students. Each preceptor's license copy, CV, proof of malpractice coverage and practice address come to us, so the DocuSign packet you submit is whole and well ahead of midterm.
Because we plan the whole practicum sequence at once, your next preceptor is being lined up while the current rotation runs, and FNP clinical weeks are scheduled around the October bootcamp in Peoria. Questions Bradley students ask
Does Bradley University find preceptors for its online NP students?
Bradley's public material describes a student-led search. Bradley's online marketing lists picking your own preceptors as a benefit, the welcome sites ask students to take an active role in locating the site and preceptor, and the Graduate Student Handbook makes each practicum the student's to arrange. No Bradley page offers a preceptor bank. Bradley approves the preceptor and facility you bring, and your academic advisor fields practicum questions.
Will Bradley accept a preceptor found through a placement service?
Bradley's published approval steps look at the preceptor, the site and the paperwork, and none of them asks how the match was made. A preceptor we locate goes through the same DocuSign packet, agency agreement and faculty approval in Typhon as one you found alone. That is why every match we make is built around Bradley's published rules: an NP, MD or DO in the right setting with an active, unencumbered license.
Can I still use the preceptors I named on my Bradley application?
Yes, and they are often the quickest start. NP and DNP applicants list potential preceptors or practice mentors when applying, yet those names still pass through the packet and approval steps before any hours count. If someone on your list has changed jobs or backed out, that is the natural moment to widen the search. See naming preceptors at application for how firm that list is.
Is it too late to bring in a placement desk once the semester has started?
Later than ideal, but workable. Since packets are due at the prior term's midpoint, a search during the current semester usually aims at your next practicum. If you are already enrolled in a practicum course with no preceptor, speak to course faculty and your advisor straight away, then read need a preceptor fast for the order of moves.
Do Bradley leadership students have the same three options?
They do. MSN Nursing and Healthcare Leadership students need experienced nurse leaders for NUR 631, NUR 633 and NUR 697, and post-master's DNP Nursing Leadership students propose a practice mentor for the project.
