The Bradley preceptor packet: what goes in, who signs, and when it is due
At Bradley University, a preceptor becomes official through the preceptor packet, sent through DocuSign by midterm of the semester before the clinical course. Each track has its own Clinical Packet and Guidelines in MyOnline. Your preceptor signs and supplies documents, you get it in on time, and Bradley approves it or sends it back.

The deadline in one line
Bradley's welcome sites for admitted online students put it plainly: "Preceptor packets are due by midterm of the semester prior to the clinical course start date." The same pages say the packets are submitted through DocuSign. Everything else about the packet follows from those two facts.
In practice, a spring practicum needs its packet around the middle of the fall semester, and a fall practicum needs it around the middle of spring. The exact midterm dates for the online terms are in the academic calendar in MyOnline. Bradley's public pages describe no extension process, so if you are running late, talk to course faculty or the Office of Online and Distance Education before the date passes. Our clinical deadlines page lines up this date with the others.
One packet per track
The Graduate Student Handbook (revised 5/8/2026, pp. 12-13) names a separate Clinical Packet and Guidelines for each program and links them to MyOnline. Because the packets are not public, the table shows which courses each one covers rather than its contents.
| Packet | Courses it covers |
|---|---|
| FNP | NUR 676, NUR 677, NUR 678, NUR 679 |
| PMHNP | NUR 684, NUR 685, NUR 686, NUR 687 |
| AGACNP | NUR 656, NUR 657, NUR 658 |
| AGPCNP | NUR 666, NUR 667, NUR 668 |
| MSN Nursing and Healthcare Leadership | NUR 631, NUR 633, NUR 697 |
| DNP Leadership | NUR 840 |
| Community Health (RN-MSN) | NUR 407 only |
| DNP Project | DNP Project Practice Mentor Packet |
Two gaps are worth knowing. The handbook's AG lists begin at NUR 656 and NUR 666, yet the 2026-27 catalog gives NUR 655 Diagnostic Reasoning 50 supervised practicum hours, so ask your advisor how those hours are arranged. And NUR 684 appears with the PMHNP packet even though the catalog calls its 150 hours clinical simulation under the practicum instructor, while the online PMHNP page describes preceptor hours. Your PMHNP packet settles which applies.
What goes into the packet
Since the live forms sit in MyOnline, the most detailed public description is Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar. Use it as a preview and treat your track's current packet as the final word.
The 2017 packet contained
- An initial preceptor agreement form signed by the preceptor, naming the site address and the course.
- Preceptor tips explaining the role.
- An evaluation form the preceptor completes on the student.
- Copies of the preceptor's malpractice insurance, license and current CV.
Back then, students scanned the pages and emailed or faxed them to the department's administrative support staff, and phone photos were refused. DocuSign has replaced that routine, but the lesson carries over: clean, legible, current documents move through review faster than anything patched together at the last minute.
What your preceptor fills in and supplies
Expect your preceptor's part to mirror the 2017 list: signing the agreement portion in DocuSign, confirming the practice address and the course, and providing a current license, CV and proof of malpractice coverage. Bradley's welcome sites draw a firm line on the license: it must be active and unencumbered, and an infraction can keep a preceptor from approval.
Give your preceptor a quick heads-up before the envelope arrives so it does not sit unopened in a crowded inbox. Tell them the course, the catalog's hour total and roughly when the term begins. If their employer requires its own student agreement or application, find out now, because that runs on the employer's clock rather than Bradley's. See the clinical agency agreement.
After you submit
- Bradley reviews the packetThe preceptor's credential, license, setting and documents are checked against the course. In 2017 the answer came by email, approved or not approved, in about five business days;
NUR 407decisions came from course faculty. - The agency agreement followsIf the facility has no current agreement with Bradley, one is completed. The 2017 webinars placed this with the credentialing coordinator.
- You set up TyphonYou request the preceptor and agency in Typhon, and course faculty approve the entry. See Bradley Typhon.
- Hours start with the termNothing counts before the scheduled semester begins, and every practicum day goes into Typhon within seven days. If the packet comes back unapproved, the same steps restart with a new preceptor, which is why an early submission matters.
Reusing a preceptor
Staying with the same preceptor across courses saves paperwork, within limits. Bradley's 2017 webinar allowed a preceptor to be reused, but only twice. On each reuse, only the one-page initial preceptor form went back in, unless the license, CV or malpractice documents had expired by the rotation start, in which case updated copies were required.
Two cautions apply. The 2017 limit may have changed, so confirm the current rule in your packet. And course settings differ: a preceptor who fits NUR 677 may not cover the women's health and pediatric content of NUR 678. Plan reuse around the settings each course requires, not just around convenience. A preceptor who covers two courses well is worth more than one who covers three poorly.
How we get your packet in complete
The packet is where a placement succeeds or stalls, and it is where our process is most thorough. Once a preceptor agrees, your placement advisor collects the license, CV, malpractice certificate and exact site address, checks each against Bradley's published requirements, and briefs the preceptor on the DocuSign envelope so it comes back signed.
We work to the midterm of the semester before your course, not to the course start, which leaves time to fix anything Bradley flags. For students with several practicums ahead, we build the next packet while the current rotation runs. Bradley still makes every approval decision; our part is making sure the packet in front of it is complete and fits its rules. Tell us your course and term in the form below, or see how it works.
Questions Bradley students ask
Where do I find the Bradley preceptor packet?
In MyOnline, the portal for Bradley's online students. The Graduate Student Handbook links each track's Clinical Packet and Guidelines there, and the portal has a dedicated Clinicals tab. The packets are not on Bradley's public website. If your track's packet is hard to locate, your academic advisor or the Office of Online and Distance Education can point you to it.
Can I submit the packet as soon as my preceptor agrees?
The published rule sets a latest date, midterm of the semester before the course, not an earliest one. Sending it early leaves room to replace a preceptor who is not approved and to sort out any facility agreement. Clinical hours still cannot begin until the scheduled semester starts, whatever date the packet went in.
What if my preceptor's documents expire before the rotation starts?
Send updated copies. Bradley's 2017 webinar told students to refresh any out-of-date license, CV or malpractice document when a rotation began, particularly when reusing a preceptor. Note expiration dates when you first collect the documents, and set a reminder for anything that lapses before the course ends.
Is the NUR 407 packet different from the NP packets?
Yes. The handbook lists a Community Health packet for NUR 407 alone. Bradley's 2017 NUR 407 webinar said the preceptor must work in a community setting, such as a school, health department, occupational health or long-term care, and that course faculty email the decision. A master's degree was not always required, so ask faculty before building that packet.
What happens if I miss the preceptor packet deadline?
Bradley's public pages do not spell out the consequence. Because each practicum needs approval before it starts and hours cannot begin before the term, a late packet puts the course start at risk. Contact course faculty and the Office of Online and Distance Education right away, and see need a preceptor fast for next steps.
