Typhon at Bradley: records, logs and the 7-day rule
Typhon is where Bradley University graduate nursing students record every practicum day. Your access email lands in BUMail shortly before the first clinical course, your preceptor and site are set up once course faculty approve them, and each day's hours (with patient data on NP tracks) must be entered within 7 days.

What Typhon holds for a Bradley student
Bradley's online tuition page describes Typhon as the software that monitors clinical hours, and the Graduate Student Handbook makes it the official record: practicum hours go into Typhon, and a day that never reaches it is hard to count. The welcome sites say a one-time Typhon charge is billed with first-term tuition.
For NP and DNP students each entry carries more than a time. The handbook asks for patient data along with the hours, and the preceptor and agency records tie each day to the site Bradley approved.
Course faculty approve the preceptor and agency entries, and your logged hours and patient data become the record of what you completed in the course. How entries feed into your grade is set in each course syllabus and your track's clinical packet in MyOnline.
Getting into Typhon the first time
Typhon is not waiting for you on day one of the program. Bradley's welcome sites time the access email to reach BUMail a week or two ahead of your first clinical course, and they give you 72 hours from its arrival to sign in.
That timing means a first practicum can creep up on you. If your first clinical course starts in January, watch B-Mail closely through early January, and have your preceptor's name, credentials and site address at hand so the records go in on your first visit to the system.
In 2017, Bradley also had students watch OSHA, HIPAA and Typhon videos and return a signed acknowledgment. Today's orientation steps are in Canvas and MyOnline, so follow those where they differ from older accounts you may read.
Setting up your preceptor and site
The most detailed public walk-through of the setup is in Bradley's 2017 FNP preceptor webinar. The general order still matches the current handbook, but check your clinical packet for today's screens and labels.
- Bradley approves the preceptor firstThe DocuSign packet goes in and Bradley approves the preceptor and facility. The Typhon records follow that approval, not the other way round.
- Request the preceptor and agencyAdd your preceptor and clinical site as a request in Typhon.
- Course faculty approve the entryFaculty review the request and approve it.
- Log against the approved recordFrom then on, the preceptor and site fill in automatically on your daily entries.
If you change preceptors partway through a course, the new person needs Bradley's approval and a new Typhon record before those hours count. The credentialing and approvals page explains who signs off at each stage.
The 7-day rule and a clean daily entry
The handbook rule is direct: hours and patient data for each practicum day must be submitted in Typhon within seven days of that day. Make it a habit, not a catch-up job; an entry made while the day is fresh is the one that gets the details right.
A workable rhythm is to jot what your course asks you to log during the shift and enter it that evening. Keep patient identifiers out of your notes: you signed Bradley's HIPAA Compliance Agreement after admission, and the site's own privacy rules apply as well.
For FNP students, Bradley's 2017 webinar shared a competency guide that suggested minimum visit types for each practicum, such as well visits, episodic visits, a sports physical and follow-ups, with procedures like incision and drainage or sutures encouraged but not required. The current guide sits in the FNP clinical packet, and your log is where you show you met it.
Hours that count, and hours that do not
- Before the semester: none; the first day of term is the earliest start.
- During a leave of absence: none.
- Over a break with an Incomplete: allowed if the course's lead faculty member signs off.
- DNP project hours over a break: they count when three things line up: a pass in the prior project course, enrollment in the next, and a yes from your project mentor.
- Telehealth: FNP, AGACNP and AGPCNP students follow separate telemedicine policy guidelines named in the handbook. Because those guidelines are not posted publicly, get course faculty's answer before any telehealth time goes in the log.
NUR 684simulation: Bradley's 2026-27 catalog treats these 150 hours as simulation run by the practicum instructor, whereas the online PMHNP page presents them as time with a preceptor. See the PMHNP simulation course page and confirm with course faculty how to log them.
When a rule and a situation do not quite fit, ask before you log, not after. A short written answer from course faculty settles the question for the rest of the course.
Hour targets to track by course
These are the 2026-27 catalog figures your Typhon totals build toward. Where Bradley's online pages print a different number, the note says so; your clinical packet and course faculty settle which applies to you. The full picture, with the planner, is on the clinical hours page.

When the log shows a gap: why Bradley students choose us
Typhon makes a shortfall visible early, which is exactly when help is most useful. If your totals trail the course target because a preceptor cut days or left, the placement desk lines up a replacement in your approved state and gathers the new preceptor's packet details, so Bradley can approve the change and your Typhon record can follow.
Your following course is planned during the current one, so a new preceptor record is ready for the next course's first week. If you are already behind, see behind on clinical hours or preceptor dropped out, or give us the course and your remaining hours in the form on this page.
Questions Bradley students ask
When will I get my Bradley Typhon account?
Not at admission. The welcome sites put the access email in your BUMail inbox in the final week or two before your first clinical course, with a 72-hour window to activate it. If your course is close and nothing has arrived, check with your academic advisor or the Office of Online and Distance Education.
What if I log a clinical day late?
The handbook requires each practicum day in Typhon within seven days, and it publishes no grace period. How a late entry is treated is up to course faculty and the course syllabus, so tell your instructor promptly rather than entering the day quietly weeks later.
Do leadership and DNP students use Typhon?
The handbook's Typhon rule is written for graduate practicum hours generally, with patient data added for NP and DNP tracks. Leadership students in NUR 631, NUR 633, NUR 697 or NUR 840, and DNP students in the project courses, should confirm the exact logging format in their clinical packet or with course faculty.
Is Typhon the same as Canvas or MyOnline?
No. Canvas at learn.bradley.edu holds your courses, MyOnline holds registration, the online calendar and the clinical packets, and Typhon is the separate clinical log. Each account arrives on its own schedule, and Typhon's comes last, shortly before your first practicum course.
