Q: Can I attend the bootcamp before I start NUR 676?

Every Bradley University FNP student attends a two-day skills bootcamp on the Peoria campus in October, once, before NUR 679. The FNP welcome site calls it the Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop and requires you to be enrolled in NUR 676, NUR 677 or NUR 678 when you go, which turns a short trip into a date you should find on your program of study now.

The bootcamp in brief

Bradley's FNP welcome site puts the rule in one line: "The Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop is a one-time, on-campus requirement for all FNP students and must be completed before enrolling in NUR 679." The rest of the picture comes from the MSN-FNP program page and the catalog.

Finding your October

The bootcamp runs once a year, so the question is which October falls while you are enrolled in one of the three eligible courses.

Locate NUR 679 on your program of study. It sits in MyOnline, and every other date here counts back from it.
Mark the semesters for NUR 676, 677 and 678. These are the only terms in which attending satisfies the welcome site's rule.
Circle the ones that contain an October. In 2026-27 Bradley's fall semester runs August 26 to December 19.
Aim for the first eligible October. If illness or a work crisis keeps you home, a later eligible October may still be open.
Get the date early. Ask the Office of Online and Distance Education or your academic advisor as soon as it is set, then tell your preceptor.

If none of your NUR 676, NUR 677 or NUR 678 semesters includes an October, raise it with your academic advisor right away, before it delays NUR 679.

Why a few Bradley pages say fully online

Bradley's sources do not all agree about campus attendance. The NP hub page advertises learning fully online with no campus residency. The online DNP-FNP page calls that program 100 percent online and never mentions the bootcamp. The 2026-27 catalog's FNP program titles dropped the phrase "(Online and one on-site bootcamp)" that the 2025-26 titles carried.

On the other side stand the NUR 679 prerequisite in the 2026-27 catalog, the MSN-FNP page calling the bootcamp mandatory for all FNP students, the welcome site's one-time requirement, and the FNP certificate page listing campus residency as yes. That last line is a change: in 2016 the same certificate page listed campus residency as none.

The prerequisite is the rule that controls enrollment in NUR 679, so plan to attend whichever FNP route you are on. The NUR 679 page explains the course the bootcamp unlocks.

Planning clinical weeks around the trip

Two days on campus, plus travel, come out of a semester in which you are also logging practicum hours. A little planning keeps the course on pace.

Tell your preceptor at the start of the term which days you will be away, and confirm they still have room for your full hour count.
Front-load clinic days in September, since hours cannot be banked before the semester opens.
Enter the days before you leave in Typhon; the 7-day logging rule keeps running while you travel.
Ask course faculty whether bootcamp time counts toward any practicum hours; Bradley has not published an answer, so do not assume it does.
Leave slack in the final weeks of the term in case travel or weather costs you an extra clinic day.

Getting to Peoria

The campus is at 1501 W Bradley Ave in Peoria, and Bradley describes the city as three hours from Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis. The Department of Nursing is based in Westlake Hall. Bradley does not state who covers travel, lodging or any bootcamp fee, so ask the Office of Online and Distance Education what to budget before you book.

One naming wrinkle is worth knowing. Bradley's Continuing Education office separately lists a Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop in Westlake Hall, Room 116, open to NP students and practicing NPs (page dated May 2025). Bradley does not say whether that offering is the required FNP event, so register only through the channel your program points you to and confirm it counts toward the NUR 679 prerequisite.

PMHNP and adult-gerontology students

The MSN-FNP page says the bootcamp is open to students from other NP specializations, so PMHNP, AGACNP and AGPCNP students may be able to join. For PMHNP students, no campus requirement is published; if you hope to join anyway, ask the Office of Online and Distance Education whether space is open before you plan travel.

Adult-gerontology students now have their own requirement. The 2026-27 catalog asks every AG option for one on-site skills bootcamp and makes the completed Nurse Practitioner Skills Bootcamp a prerequisite for NUR 658 and NUR 668. Bradley has not published its place or dates, or whether it shares the October FNP event, and the online AG pages still say no campus residency. The AG skills bootcamp page tracks what is known.

Questions Bradley students ask

When is the 2026 Bradley FNP Bootcamp?

Bradley has not posted the 2026 dates publicly. Its pages say only that the bootcamp runs for two days in October on the Peoria campus, once a year. Ask the Office of Online and Distance Education or your academic advisor, and watch MyOnline and your B-Mail, as soon as your program of study shows an eligible fall semester.

Do DNP-FNP students have to attend the bootcamp?

Yes, as far as Bradley's requirements go. DNP-FNP students take NUR 679, and the 2026-27 catalog lists one on-site bootcamp as its prerequisite. The online DNP-FNP page does not mention the trip, but the 2025-26 catalog titled the DNP-FNP program online with one on-site bootcamp. Confirm your October with your advisor.

Can I attend the bootcamp before I start NUR 676?

Is the FNP Bootcamp the same as Bradley's Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop?

The FNP welcome site uses the workshop name for the required event. Bradley's Continuing Education office also lists a Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop in Westlake Hall that practicing NPs can attend. Bradley does not say the two are the same, so register through the route your program gives you.
