Bradley post-master's FNP certificate: a fast path that needs preceptors early
Bradley University's post-master's FNP certificate takes an MSN-prepared RN through the same four primary care practicums as the MSN, in as few as 26 credits. Waive the three core courses and the first practicum comes up fast, which can put its preceptor packet inside your opening semester. We start the search the day you are admitted.

Who the certificate fits and what it asks
The certificate admits licensed RNs whose master's in nursing comes from a program accredited by CNEA, ACEN or CCNE. Taken in full it is 35 credits: BIO 526, NUR 600 and NUR 651, the four FNP practicums at 6 credits each, and the 2-credit NUR 690. A core course you passed with a B or higher in the last five years can come off the list, and dropping all three is how the range falls to 26.
Bradley's online page gives three different lengths: 6 semesters and 2 years in its Fast Facts, five semesters in the curriculum text, and 16 to 24 months in a duration box. The plan of study in MyOnline settles your actual sequence. The page also lists admission in fall, spring and summer, no capstone, and coursework that is fully online and asynchronous.
Finishers are eligible for FNP board certification through the AANP or the ANCC, and certificate students have no comprehensive assessment in the handbook's table.
Why the first packet can be due in your first semester
The prerequisites for NUR 676 are BIO 526, NUR 600 and NUR 651. Waive all three and only the calendar stands between admission and your first practicum, while Bradley's packet rule reaches back a full semester: each DocuSign packet is due at the middle of the term that comes before its course.
Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar made the same point with an example. A certificate student who started in August with a January practicum had to send the packet around the midterm of that first fall semester. Under that older plan, certificate students were in clinicals by semester two.
Clearance lands in the same window. The Graduate Clinical Requirements Policy wants your Viewpoint Screening file complete by the midpoint of that same first semester: criminal history, a urine drug test, vaccines, a physical and insurance. The deadlines page lays out both clocks.
If you waive the core courses, treat admission day as the start of your preceptor search: the NUR 676 packet may be due by the midterm of your first semester.
The four practicums you will schedule
Certificate students take the same FNP practicum sequence as MSN and DNP students. Bradley's catalog program text sets the certificate at 700 clinical hours, but the course descriptions it prints, and the hours on the online certificate page, add up to 750. Schedule to the course figures and confirm the total with your advisor; the 750-hour change page explains the gap.

A compressed plan leaves little slack between courses. When NUR 677 starts the term after NUR 676 ends, its packet is due while you are only halfway through the first rotation.
Campus residency: yes, for one October
Bradley's certificate page answers the residency question directly: "Campus residency: Yes." The reason is the FNP Bootcamp, held over two October days in Peoria and required before NUR 679. Bradley's welcome site uses another name, the Nurse Practitioner Skills Workshop, and expects you to attend while taking one of the three earlier practicums.
On a two-year plan there may be only one October that works. Pin it down with your advisor in your first term, then tell each preceptor about the two days away. Bradley has not posted 2026 dates, so check MyOnline, and budget for the trip to Peoria, since Bradley's pages say nothing about travel or lodging. The bootcamp page has the rest.
The bootcamp also changes what you ask of your NUR 679 preceptor. Arriving at the 300-hour immersion with the skills workshop behind you is the design, so the immersion term is the one to protect from schedule surprises.
Preceptor rules for a nurse who already has an MSN
Holding a master's leaves the preceptor rules unchanged. In the 2017 webinar Bradley accepted NPs and physicians (MD or DO), did not accept PAs, CNSs or CNLs, and wanted NPs to supervise the majority of hours. The welcome sites add that a preceptor with a license infraction may not be approved.
Two details from that webinar matter on a short plan. A specialist, say in dermatology, GI/GU or cardiology, could supervise up to 100 of the 750 hours, which helps if a specialist colleague offers time. And a preceptor could be reused up to twice, so one strong primary care preceptor could carry more than one of your four courses. Both rules are from 2017, so confirm them in the current FNP clinical packet.
Certificate students are practicing RNs, which raises the workplace question. Bradley's public documents are silent on training where you are employed. The written policy is narrower: no family member as preceptor, and no paycheck for hours you count toward a practicum. State checks before your first rotation
For the FNP, Bradley's state table marks Tennessee alone as falling short; the other 49 states meet the educational requirements. California carries a footnote about Schedule II prescribing, which Bradley's pharmacology course does not cover to that state's standard, so a supplemental three-hour Board-approved course may be needed if your job involves Schedule II drugs. Ohio adds a continuing education course for residents who finished an APRN program outside Ohio.
New York residents can enroll, but they cannot do clinical rotations in New York. Plan on RN licensure in whatever state hosts each rotation, and keep rotations within your approved home or admission state. A rotation across a state line, even into a bordering state, goes to your advisor before the semester starts. The state disclosures page covers the table in full.

Questions Bradley students ask
Can I waive courses in the Bradley FNP certificate?
Yes, three of them: pathophysiology (BIO 526), health assessment (NUR 600) and pharmacology (NUR 651). Each can be waived when your accredited MSN included it within the last five years and you earned at least a B. With all three waived, the certificate totals 26 credits.
When can I start the Bradley FNP certificate?
Bradley's certificate page lists fall, spring and summer admission cycles. As of late September 2026 the next cohort begins January 20, 2027, and the application deadline for it is November 15, 2026. Since your first preceptor packet may fall due within that first semester, apply with a preceptor idea already in mind.
Is the certificate's clinical work the same as the MSN FNP?
The practicum courses are identical: NUR 676 through NUR 679, with the same course descriptions, the same hour targets and the same October bootcamp before the immersion course. What the certificate drops is the MSN core, since you already hold a master's. The MSN FNP page shows the longer route.
Do I need a separate preceptor packet for each FNP course?
Yes, as a rule: Bradley's welcome sites describe a DocuSign packet for every clinical course, due at the middle of the prior semester. In the 2017 webinar a reused preceptor needed only the one-page initial form again, with updated documents if the originals had expired. The current FNP clinical packet in MyOnline has the rule that applies now.
Do certificate students take the NUR 690 exit exam?
The handbook ties the exit exam in NUR 690 to the MSN FNP, AGACNP and AGPCNP programs and lists no comprehensive assessment for certificates. Certificate students still take NUR 690 for 2 credits and must meet whatever that course asks, so read its Canvas syllabus for the grading details.
