Bradley NUR 676: your first FNP practicum
NUR 676 Primary Care Acute Conditions Across the Lifespan I opens the clinical sequence for every Bradley University FNP student: 6 credits and 100 hours of acute, episodic primary care for patients of every age, taken after BIO 526, NUR 600 and NUR 651. As your first practicum, it is also the course where clearance, Typhon access and your first DocuSign packet all have to line up.

Its clinical packet is the first of four in the FNP set that the Graduate Student Handbook links to MyOnline, one for each of NUR 676, NUR 677, NUR 678 and NUR 679.
100 hours, or 50 on the DNP page
The catalog course description gives NUR 676 100 clinical hours, and the course list on the online FNP certificate page agrees. The online DNP-FNP page is the outlier: it lists this course at 50 hours, which makes its FNP courses plus the 300 DNP project hours land on exactly 1,000.
The catalog's DNP-FNP program also says 1,000 hours, yet its own course hours come to 1,050 with NUR 676 at 100. Bradley has not published which figure governs, so DNP students should plan the preceptor commitment at 100 hours and ask their academic advisor how the total is counted. The DNP project hours page explains the rest of the arithmetic, and MSN and certificate students can simply plan on 100.
First practicum, first-time setup
Several one-time steps attach to whichever clinical course comes first, and for FNP students that is NUR 676.
- Clear Viewpoint Screening. Your screening package, from criminal history and drug test to vaccine records, a recent physical and proof of health coverage, must be complete at the midpoint of your first semester, and any notice about a missing item needs your reply within 24 hours. - Send the preceptor packet through DocuSign. It must be in by the midpoint of the semester that precedes
NUR 676, so your search starts a full semester ahead. - Let Bradley set up the site. Agency and affiliation agreements belong to the Office of Online and Distance Education; in 2017, students completed theirs with the department's credentialing coordinator.
- Open Typhon within 72 hours. Bradley sends the login to your B-Mail a week or two ahead of the first clinical course. In 2017, students then entered the preceptor and site in Typhon, and course faculty approved the entry.
- Start on or after the first day of the semester. Wear professional attire, a white lab jacket and your Bradley graduate student badge.
A preceptor and setting built for acute visits
The catalog frames NUR 676 around acute disorders across the lifespan, so a primary care practice that sees same-day and sick visits for children and adults gives you the right mix. A family practice suits well because its patients span every age group. Bradley's 2017 FNP competency guide listed visit types it wanted students to see, including episodic visits, well visits, sports physicals and follow-ups.
On who may supervise you, Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar is still the most specific public source: nurse practitioners and physicians (MD or DO) qualify, NPs should carry the majority of your FNP hours, and PAs, CNSs and CNLs are out. The welcome site wants every preceptor's license in good standing, and relatives are off the table under the Graduate Professional Behaviors Policy. Confirm anything else, such as years of experience, in the NUR 676 clinical packet; the preceptor requirements page collects the rest.
Fitting 100 hours into the term
NUR 676 is the lightest of the four FNP practicums. At eight-hour clinic days, 100 hours is about 13 days; in Bradley's 2017 webinar, the typical student was in clinic a day or two each week. Each day goes into Typhon within 7 days, and none can happen before the semester opens. Front-loading a few extra days early in the term leaves room if a clinic closes or a preceptor is out.
Keep October in view. The FNP Bootcamp, a two-day event in Peoria held every October, can be attended while you are in any of the first three FNP practicums. If NUR 676 falls in a fall semester, build those two days and the travel into your clinic schedule; the FNP bootcamp page covers the timing.
Secure NUR 677 while NUR 676 runs
Your NUR 677 packet follows the same timing rule: it has to reach Bradley by the midpoint of the preceding term. If your program of study places it directly after NUR 676, that deadline lands in the middle of your first practicum, so the second search overlaps the first course.
Reusing your NUR 676 preceptor is one route. Under the 2017 webinar's rules, a preceptor could supervise you for no more than two courses, and the second time you resent just the single-page initial form plus any document that had lapsed. Bradley's online program pages, though, recommend switching preceptors as the clinical focus changes, and NUR 677 moves to chronic conditions. The NUR 677 page covers that choice.

Questions Bradley students ask
What are the prerequisites for NUR 676 at Bradley?
Three courses, per the 2026-27 catalog: BIO 526, NUR 600 and NUR 651, the graduate pathophysiology, health assessment and pharmacology core. Post-master's FNP certificate students can have that core waived when they earned a B or higher in it at an accredited MSN program no more than five years earlier. Bradley's 2017 webinar put certificate students in clinicals by semester two.
Can a physician assistant precept me in NUR 676?
Not under the most detailed public guidance, Bradley's 2017 FNP preceptor webinar, which left physician assistants off the approved list along with CNSs and CNLs and wanted NPs to supervise most FNP hours. When is the NUR 676 preceptor packet due?
Bradley's current welcome sites set the deadline at midterm of the semester before NUR 676, with the packet sent through DocuSign. Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar described an older timeline of about seven weeks before clinicals, with approval in roughly five business days. Plan to the midterm rule and treat the older figures as history.
Do DNP-FNP students take the same NUR 676?
Yes. The catalog's DNP-FNP course list includes NUR 676 with the same 6 credits as the MSN. The difference is on the online DNP-FNP page, which lists 50 clinical hours instead of the catalog's 100. Until your advisor confirms otherwise, ask your preceptor for the full 100.
Can I complete NUR 676 hours at an urgent care clinic?
The catalog describes NUR 676 as acute disorders across the lifespan in various settings and names no approved setting types. Whether a particular urgent care fits depends on the ages it sees and on course faculty approving the site and preceptor.
