NUR 658: 300 acute care hours to finish the AGACNP sequence
NUR 658 Management of Acutely Ill Adults and Geriatrics III is the final and largest clinical course in Bradley University's AGACNP tracks: 300 hours with an acute care preceptor in the 2026-27 catalog, open only once you have completed the Nurse Practitioner Skills Bootcamp. Bradley's online AGACNP page still shows 200 hours and no campus visit, so confirm which plan applies to you, then secure the preceptor early.

NUR 658 in the 2026-27 catalog
NUR 658 is the last of three 6-credit management courses. It carries more hours than any other AGACNP course, and it is the only one with a prerequisite that is not a course: the on-site skills bootcamp.
It sits at the end of every AGACNP path, whether you came in with a BSN, as an RN, as a doctoral student or for the certificate, and it closes out the AGACNP Clinical Packet and Guidelines that began with NUR 656.
In a straight sequence, its packet is due by midterm of your NUR 657 semester, and its preceptor takes on the heaviest commitment of any AGACNP placement. That makes it the request most worth making early, to a preceptor who knows exactly what 300 hours of supervision involves.

300 hours or 200: which plan applies
Bradley's sources disagree here. The 2026-27 catalog gives NUR 658 300 hours and the AGACNP track 750, with one required on-site bootcamp. The online AGACNP page, last updated in September 2026, lists 200 hours for the course, 600 for the track, and describes the program as having no campus residency.
Those smaller numbers are the ones the two previous catalog editions printed, so the online page looks like a holdover. Bradley has not said how the change applies to students who enrolled before 2026-27. Your academic advisor can tell you which edition your own plan follows, and the 750-hour change page shows the full comparison.
Plan for 300 hours and the bootcamp unless your advisor confirms in writing that an earlier plan applies to you.
The bootcamp comes first
The bootcamp sits in this course's prerequisite list, so NUR 658 stays closed to you until you have attended. Its dates, place and length for AG students are still unannounced.
What is known sits on our skills bootcamp page, including how the October FNP bootcamp in Peoria works. Once your date is set, share it with your NUR 657 preceptor, and book travel and time off early, since the trip may land in the same weeks your NUR 658 packet is due.
If the bootcamp is scheduled after the semester you planned for NUR 658, the course moves with it. Ask your advisor early how the dates line up with your plan of study.
Fitting 300 hours into one term
Three hundred hours over a 15-week semester averages about 20 a week, or roughly 25 twelve-hour shifts across the term. Inside a 7-week term it would be about 43 hours a week, a full-time load on top of any job. Check your section's schedule in MyOnline before you commit to a preceptor's calendar.
The usual rules hold: no hours before the semester starts, each day entered in Typhon within seven days, and telehealth only under the AG telemedicine guidelines your faculty share.
If you fall behind, the nursing Incomplete policy lets you finish after the term only when at least 80 percent of the coursework is complete with a B or better standing, and the remaining work must be done by week 11 of the following semester. Clinical time during a break counts only if the lead faculty member signs off. Because NUR 658 is the last practicum, a slip here can move your graduation date; see delayed graduation.
Aim the last rotation at your first job
With 300 hours in one placement, NUR 658 is the closest the AGACNP track comes to an immersion. It makes sense to aim it at the kind of acute care you want to practice in: the ICU, the emergency department, a hospitalist group or a specialty inpatient service.
What follows depends on your path. Every AGACNP path also includes NUR 690, the 2-credit professional aspects course, and for MSN students its exit exam serves as the comprehensive assessment; certificates carry no such exam. BSN-to-DNP students move on to the project courses, and the catalog names the ANCC AGACNP exam for certification.
A long final placement also gives a unit time to see your work. Arrive prepared, follow your patients through their stays, and ask your preceptor for feedback at the halfway mark, when there is still time to act on it.

How many hours is Bradley's NUR 658 now?
Three hundred, across 6 credits, in the current catalog. Bradley's online AGACNP page still says 200, a leftover from the 600-hour plan. Work to the current catalog unless your academic advisor confirms in writing that an older edition applies to you.
Can I take NUR 658 without the skills bootcamp?
Not under the 2026-27 catalog, where the bootcamp stands beside NUR 656 and NUR 657 as something you must finish first. If you entered under an earlier catalog that had no AG bootcamp, ask your advisor in writing whether the requirement applies to you.
Can I do NUR 658 in a bordering state?
Possibly. The handbook asks you to raise any rotation over a state line with your advisor or the chair ahead of the term. You will likely need an active RN license in that state, and Bradley's state table must list it for AGACNP; California, Maryland, New Hampshire and Tennessee are not listed as meeting requirements.
Does NUR 658 apply to the AGPCNP track?
No. AGPCNP students take the parallel primary care course, NUR 668, also 300 hours in the 2026-27 catalog and also gated by the skills bootcamp, but in primary care or outpatient settings. Of the clinical pieces, the two tracks share only NUR 655 and the bootcamp. See our NUR 668 page.
Does the DNP-AGACNP use the same NUR 658?
Yes. The BSN-to-DNP AGACNP takes NUR 655 to NUR 658 for 750 clinical hours plus the bootcamp, then moves into the four DNP project courses. The catalog sets the DNP total at 1,000 hours, although the courses add to 1,050; our DNP project hours page explains.
