What NUR 657 asks of you

The 2026-27 catalog lists NUR 657 at 6 credits and 200 clinical hours of direct patient care with the clinical preceptor. It cannot start until NUR 656 is complete, on top of the pathophysiology, pharmacology and assessment core, so it follows the first management course directly.

Bradley's online AGACNP page gives it 200 hours too; the two sources part ways only on the other courses. After NUR 657, one course remains in the specialty sequence: the 300-hour NUR 658, with the skills bootcamp as its gate.

The handbook groups NUR 657 with NUR 656 and NUR 658 under one AGACNP Clinical Packet and Guidelines in MyOnline, so expect familiar forms. What changes is the calendar around it, covered below.

Use the second course to widen your range

Acute care covers a lot of ground. A second rotation in a different unit, intensive care after a hospitalist service or the emergency department after a step-down unit, builds a range that one site rarely gives you.

Bradley's online program hubs encourage switching preceptors as your clinical focus shifts. Its 2017 preceptor webinar, on the other hand, let a preceptor be reused, but only twice, by resending the one-page initial form. If your NUR 656 preceptor offers to continue, weigh continuity against breadth, and confirm the current reuse rule in the AGACNP packet.

Whichever you choose, the patients remain adults and older adults with acute illness, and the preceptor still needs an active, unencumbered license. A new hospital also brings that system's own student steps, which can add weeks to the approval.

Three jobs in one semester

In a straight sequence, NUR 657 is the busiest planning semester of the AGACNP track. Three things run at once:

When work or life changes mid-course

A new job or shift pattern can collide with a preceptor's schedule. One MSN-AGACNP graduate, in a testimonial on a Bradley landing page, describes Bradley reworking her clinical placements partway through a semester after she changed jobs. It is a single testimonial, not a policy, but it suggests the conversation is worth having early.

The handbook's firmer rules concern location. Moving to an unapproved state, or choosing a site across a state line, is something your advisor or the chair must hear about before the next term starts, and the clinical state may want its own RN license from you. Telehealth and your running total

The handbook points AGACNP students to separate telemedicine guidelines that govern whether telehealth time counts toward practicum hours. Those guidelines are not public, and acute care work is mostly at the bedside, so treat any virtual encounters as extra rather than core until course faculty confirm they count.

Keep an eye on the total. With NUR 655 and NUR 656 complete, finishing NUR 657 should leave you at 450 of the catalog's 750 hours, with the 300 hours of NUR 658 still ahead. If your Typhon record lags that figure, talk with course faculty before the term closes, not after.

Staying slightly ahead of pace in NUR 657 pays off. It leaves room in the term for a bootcamp trip and for the calls and paperwork of the NUR 658 search, both of which tend to arrive in the same weeks as your busiest shifts.

200, in both the 2026-27 catalog and Bradley's online AGACNP page. It is a 6-credit course that follows NUR 656 and comes before the 300-hour NUR 658. The catalog's AGACNP total is 750 hours, while the online page still shows 600.

When is the NUR 658 packet due if I am in NUR 657 now?

By midterm of the semester before NUR 658 starts. If NUR 658 follows directly, that is the middle of your NUR 657 term. Bradley's 2017 webinar spoke of about seven weeks before the clinical start, but the current welcome sites set the midterm date, and that is the one to meet.

Do I attend the skills bootcamp during NUR 657?

Possibly. The catalog says only that the Nurse Practitioner Skills Bootcamp must be complete before NUR 658. Bradley has not published dates or a place for the AG version, so ask your academic advisor when your cohort attends, and tell your NUR 657 preceptor as soon as you know.

Can I do NUR 657 at a different hospital from NUR 656?

Yes, as long as Bradley approves the new preceptor and facility and an agency agreement is in place before hours begin. A new hospital also means that system's own student steps, which can add weeks, so start the switch well before the midterm packet date for NUR 657.

Is NUR 657 part of the DNP-AGACNP too?
