Bradley's online programs next start on January 20, 2027. A spring practicum therefore needs its packet in by midterm of fall 2026. The university calendar's first fall session runs August 26 to October 9, but the online term dates inside MyOnline are the ones that count, so check them today. How long the Bradley steps have taken
The current rule is a single deadline: the packet by midterm of the prior semester. The older detail comes from Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar, which set the packet roughly seven weeks ahead of the first clinical day and approval at about five business days, followed by the clinical agency agreement with the credentialing coordinator. Treat those figures as history rather than promises, but they show where the time goes: the approval itself is short, while the search and the site agreement are long.
The slowest doors are large health systems with their own student offices. Advocate Health Care asks for about two months from request to start, or as long as three months if an agreement must be written from scratch, and Northwestern Medicine's suburban sites take four to eight weeks merely to reply. Where quick yeses come from
- A preceptor you have used before. Bradley's 2017 process let one preceptor be reused up to twice, and a returning preceptor only re-signed the short initial form, plus updated documents if the old ones had expired. Check your current packet for the rule today.
- The names on your application, contacted again with specific dates.
- Independent practices where the NP or physician can decide personally, rather than routing your request through a system committee.
- Sites that already hold an agreement with Bradley. Bradley does not publish that list, so check with the Office of Online and Distance Education about nearby sites already on file.
- A colleague in precisely the right kind of practice, with room in the schedule for every required hour.
Whoever says yes must still fit Bradley's rules: an NP, MD or DO (most hours with NPs, per the 2017 webinar), an active and unencumbered license, and no family tie.

If the date cannot be met
Speak with your academic advisor before the deadline passes, and keep searching while you talk. A preceptor found even a few weeks late gives your advisor a concrete option to work with, while an empty search leaves only waiting.
Bradley's online registration follows your program of study, so a practicum that cannot start on time is a sequencing question your advisor can work through with you. About five business days from a complete packet, according to Bradley's 2017 preceptor webinar, with an email saying approved or not approved. Current timing is not published. What Bradley does publish is the deadline: each packet in DocuSign by the middle of the preceding term, a margin that also covers the agency agreement.
Can I submit my Bradley preceptor packet after the midterm deadline?
The welcome sites set midterm of the prior semester as the due date, and Bradley does not publish what happens to a packet that arrives later. If you are going to miss it, write to your academic advisor and the Office of Online and Distance Education ahead of the date, explain where the search stands, and ask what they need from you.
Can I start clinical hours while my preceptor is being approved?
No. The practicum has to be approved before it begins, nothing counts before the scheduled semester opens, and in Bradley's 2017 description course faculty approve the preceptor's Typhon entry before it appears on your logs. Hours worked early with an unapproved preceptor risk not counting at all, which costs more time than the wait.
