Practice agreements, and the preceptors you will meet
Restricted is AANP's label for South Carolina. Delegated acts by an NP rest on a signed practice agreement with a physician, and the state limits the supply of controlled substances an NP can furnish. Your preceptor will be working under that agreement, and the physician on it is a possible preceptor for part of your hours, since Bradley's 2017 webinar accepted MDs and DOs while steering most hours toward NPs. Most searches start in one of three similar-sized metros. Greenville-Anderson-Greer tops a million residents, with Charleston-North Charleston (roughly 889,000) and Columbia (roughly 880,000) just behind. Students tend to approach Prisma Health; MUSC Health of the Medical University of South Carolina; Lexington Health, which operates Lexington Medical Center; McLeod Health; and Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Each runs its own student process, so the list shows where to look rather than where Bradley holds agreements.
South Carolina's preceptor credit is for in-state schools
South Carolina rewards preceptors in its tax code, at § 12-6-3800 of Title 12. Qualifying rotations earn a credit against income tax, and rotations beyond the credited ones can earn a deduction instead. Eligibility is narrow: a physician, APRN or PA who is not paid for precepting, handles two or more rotations a year of at least 160 hours each in listed settings, and accepts Medicaid, with 100 or more Medicaid and Medicare patients between the two. Act No. 217 of 2024 pushed the end date out to tax year 2029, even though Revenue Ruling #20-2 from the state's revenue department still lists the original 2026 repeal.
Here is the part that touches you: credited rotations have to serve students of South Carolina's own colleges and universities, public or independent. A preceptor who takes you earns no credit for that time, and one who counts on the credit may lean toward in-state students. Ask early, make agreeing effortless, and show the course, schedule and paperwork at the first contact.
The Board's out-of-state rule, and your license
Under Regulation 91-6, a nursing program based in another state needs the South Carolina Board of Nursing's approval before it holds clinicals leading students to a first license, and the conditions include a faculty member supervising on site during the shift and an affiliation contract in writing. It says nothing about APRN programs, and our research found no other South Carolina step aimed at them; the Office of Online and Distance Education is the place to confirm any site-specific requirement.
South Carolina's multistate licenses date from the compact's January 19, 2018 start, and one of them meets Bradley's requirement for clinicals in the state, set out on the RN license page. Roughly 454,000 people in South Carolina belong to the Charlotte metro, but a clinic on the Charlotte side is a North Carolina rotation. Your compact license covers it; your academic advisor or the department chair still has to approve it as a bordering-state plan before the semester.

Bradley's table marks South Carolina YES for the psychiatric track, and it did in the March 2025 copy too. The track runs NUR 684, listed as simulation hours in the 2026-27 catalog, then three practicums in mental health settings. Georgia is a compact state and reads YES for every Bradley NP track, so your South Carolina multistate license carries across. The open question is Bradley's: a rotation outside the approved state you live in needs your academic advisor or the department chair to sign off before the semester starts.

Bradley's 2017 webinar said every student needs a clinical agency agreement for the site, and some facilities insist on their own version. Count back from Bradley's current deadline: the DocuSign preceptor packet is due by midterm of the semester before the clinical course. The 2017 FNP webinar advised starting the search about a year ahead, which still makes sense in a state where the tax credit pulls preceptors toward local schools.
