Bradley University nurse practitioner clinicals in Oklahoma
Oklahoma gets a YES in all four of Bradley University's online NP columns. Oklahoma's three conditions for out-of-state APRN students
Oklahoma writes its rule for outside schools into the Board's own chapter, OAC 485:10-5-12. Schools preparing students for initial licensure must secure the Board's permission in advance. Students who are already RNs and enrolled in an APRN program based elsewhere are handled differently: they may train and precept in Oklahoma with no permission request, provided three things line up:
- your RN license lets you work in Oklahoma and has no restrictions against it
- the Bradley faculty member overseeing the clinical part of the course holds an Oklahoma license in good standing, at the level taught or above
- Bradley's program matches what the Board expects of APRN education
The first condition is yours, and an Oklahoma multistate license covers it. The other two rest with Bradley, whose public pages do not say which faculty hold Oklahoma licenses, so ask your academic advisor or the Office of Online and Distance Education to confirm the faculty condition before you commit to an Oklahoma clinic.
Restricted practice, and the systems students approach
Oklahoma sits in AANP's restricted column. Prescribing by an Oklahoma NP rests on a written statement documenting a physician's supervision, and that supervision has to run 6,240 hours; NPs there also cannot write for Schedule II drugs. You will see those limits in daily practice, but Bradley's own standard for your preceptor stays the same, and the preceptor requirements page sets it out.
Two metros dominate: greater Oklahoma City, near 1.5 million residents, and greater Tulsa, near 1.07 million, with Lawton and Enid trailing well behind. OU Health, linked to the University of Oklahoma, is the best-known name; INTEGRIS Health, Saint Francis Health System and Hillcrest HealthCare System are other large ones, and SSM Health St. Anthony carries St. Louis-based SSM Health's name in the state. Each keeps its own student process, so treat the names as a plan for where to ask.
The Oklahoma preceptor tax credit
Oklahoma says thank you through the tax code. HB 3351, a 2024 law, set up a Preceptor Tax Credit Program that rewards Oklahoma-licensed clinicians, whether physician, PA or APRN, whose primary care patients are in Oklahoma and who teach students, APRN students among them. Oklahoma's Health Care Workforce Training Commission handles the paperwork. Every 160 hours of precepting counts as one rotation, a preceptor can claim at most ten a year, and credits go out in order of application until funds run out.
The Tax Commission describes it as nonrefundable, with unused amounts rolling forward up to five years, for tax years 2026 to 2035. Our research found nothing limiting it to students of Oklahoma schools, but a preceptor weighing a Bradley student should confirm eligibility with the Commission. For scale, NUR 679 alone runs 300 hours, just under two credit-length rotations.
Licensing, and the states around Oklahoma
Oklahoma has issued compact licenses since January 19, 2018. With Oklahoma as your home state, that license meets Bradley's requirement for Oklahoma clinicals; the RN license page explains the rule itself.
Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado and New Mexico all belong to the compact too, so a license rarely blocks a site just over the border. Bradley's approval is the real gate, and the FAQ below covers how it works.

Can a supervising physician be my Bradley preceptor in Oklahoma?
Yes, for part of your hours. Bradley's 2017 webinar accepted MDs and DOs as preceptors but wanted most hours spent with NPs; under the older five-practicum FNP plan, at least three of five preceptors had to be NPs. Pair an Oklahoma physician with NP-led rotations.
Does Oklahoma's tax credit reward psychiatric or acute care preceptors?
The credit is tied to primary care services, so it fits FNP and AGPCNP rotations most naturally. Whether a psychiatric or hospital-based preceptor qualifies is a question for the state commission that administers it. Either way, the credit is a matter between the preceptor and the state, separate from Bradley's approval.
When should I start asking Oklahoma preceptors?
Work back from Bradley's current rule: preceptor packets go in through DocuSign by midterm of the semester before the clinical course. Bradley's 2017 webinar told FNP students to start searching about a year ahead. Leave extra room if a hospital system has its own student process. The deadlines page lays out every date.
Can I live in Oklahoma and train in Texas or Arkansas?
Your Oklahoma multistate license carries into both, and both states read YES in Bradley's table for all four NP tracks. What remains is Bradley's sign-off: a rotation outside your approved home state has to go to your academic advisor or the department chair before the semester starts.
