Bradley University's online NP programs for Maine nurses
Every Bradley University NP specialty is a YES for Maine, and a search of the Maine board's rules turned up no approval step for schools outside the state. Maine's rules say little about students from away
Search the Maine board's rulebook and you will not find a process for an Illinois school placing an NP student in Maine. Chapter 7, the Board's rule on education, deals only with approving prelicensure programs inside the state, and the Board's web pages link to no guidance on visiting students.
Maine's statute (32 MRSA ยง2103(2)) carves out a licensure exemption for students, yet it reaches only those in board-approved programs leading toward a first license. An RN in an NP program is past that stage, so the exemption offers you nothing, and Bradley's own rule makes your RN license the key document anyway; the license page walks through it.
AANP counts Maine as full practice, with a two-year apprenticeship first: 24 months supervised by a physician or an NP, or employment where a physician serves as the clinic's or hospital's medical director. Bradley publishes no minimum years of experience for preceptors, so if your candidate is still inside that window, ask course faculty before you build the packet.
Searching for preceptors across Maine
Portland-South Portland is by far Maine's biggest metro, and Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn are the only others. If you live outside all three, early calls to the practices you already know are worth more than a cold search later.
MaineHealth and Northern Light Health are the largest names a Maine student meets, with MaineGeneral Health and Central Maine Healthcare alongside them. Listing them maps the ground only; whether any of them holds an agreement with Bradley is something the agency agreement process answers for your specific site.
If a Maine preceptor sees part of the day's patients by video, note that Bradley's handbook sends FNP and AG students to separate telemedicine guidelines on counting telehealth toward practicum hours, and that document sits behind the login, so check it with course faculty before a video-heavy practice becomes your plan.
Your license and the New Hampshire line
Maine's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018. If Maine is home, a Maine-issued multistate license is honored across the compact's other member states, though not in Illinois, which never joined. Maine has not passed the APRN Compact, and that compact is not yet running anywhere.
New Hampshire is Maine's only neighboring state, and Bradley's table treats it very differently: the FNP column reads YES there, while PMHNP, AGACNP and AGPCNP read NO. Bradley's handbook asks you to raise any bordering-state rotation with your advisor or the department chair before the semester opens, and for a PMHNP or AG student that NO makes the conversation essential. Questions Bradley students ask
Can a Maine nurse enroll in Bradley's online PMHNP?
Bradley's table marks Maine YES in the PMHNP column, as it does for FNP and both AG tracks, and adds no footnote. That answers the licensure education question for Maine. Your practicum hours would still happen in Maine, in mental health settings as the catalog requires, with preceptors Bradley has approved.
Does Maine make Bradley get approval before I train there?
No Maine rule to that effect was found. The Board's education rule covers Maine's own prelicensure schools and does not mention out-of-state placements. Individual sites can still set conditions, and Bradley's own steps, the preceptor packet and the agency agreement, apply to every Maine site you use.
Which license do I need for clinicals in Maine?
Two options work: a Maine RN license with no restrictions, or a multistate license from whichever compact state is your legal residence. An Illinois license alone would not cover Maine, because Illinois is not in the compact. Bradley expects the license to be valid in the state of every clinical course.
Do Maine FNP students have to travel to Peoria?
Yes. The FNP Bootcamp runs two days each October on Bradley's Peoria campus and is required of every FNP student before NUR 679, wherever home is. Bradley has not published this year's dates, so keep October flexible in your clinical schedule and watch for the notice; the bootcamp page has more.
